We welcome children to our services and we want them to feel included. Please ask about Wonderclub, our Junior Church, and share the activity baskets we’ve prepared. The church is pushchair accessible. There is plenty of room to park buggies beside your chair or at the back of church. Baby changing facilitates are available in the toilet at the rear of church.
Activity baskets
We offer every child who comes to the Sunday Eucharist with their family, a small basket. Sunday baskets contain a child’s guide to the communion service, colouring and activity sheets based on the Gospel of the day. .
Activity baskets, have small activities to keep children interested e.g. colouring books, jigsaws, soft toys and finger puppets. games that the children can play with either sitting with their families or in the special area by the font.
“Wonder Club” our Junior Church meets in church at 10am on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. For those aged under 11, the Wonder Club explore stories from scripture and life events using Godly Play.

Baptism
Your child is precious to you and precious to God. At baptism you promise to raise your child to know God loves them, and to help them to follow Jesus as a member of the Church. Just as you have welcomed your child into your family, in baptism the church welcomes them as a new member and pledges its support and encouragement as well.
Dame Allan’s School
St. James and St. Basil’s church has always had good and welcoming links with Dame Allan’s School. Though happily welcoming children of all faiths and none, Dame Allan’s Schools have a Christian foundation, which helps to guide their pupils to be tolerant, kind and understanding and underlines the view that every child matters.
Dame Allan’s Schools’ Chaplain is Reverend James McGowan, vicar at St James’ and St Basil’s Church in Fenham. James is regularly in school for students and staff to speak with him.
We welcome the school on many occasions for Evensong, Concerts and special assemblies and we look forward to a growing relationship with the school community.
Wingrove Primary School
Wingrove Primary School has had good links with J’s and B’s for some years. Clergy lead assemblies regularly, and the church hosts the Wingrove Link every half term, when mixed age groups of children come to learn about the Christian faith in a fun learning environment.
Beavers Cubs and Scouts
Each week Scouts gives almost half a million people aged 6-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dream – the skills they need for life.
The 82nd Newcastle Scout group based at J’s and B’s Church Hall has 3 sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Everyone’s welcome at the 82nd. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s abilities, there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.
As part of an ever growing worldwide movement, we are here creating a stronger community and inspiring positive futures, and we’re always open to new young people, or volunteers who are waiting for their next challenge!
