Newcastle Phoenix Choir

The Newcastle Phoenix Choir is a group that welcomes everyone who would like to sing, with no exceptions.

Newcastle Phoenix Choir began life at J’s & B’s in August 2021 following Streetwise Opera’s withdrawal from the North East after the Covid pandemic.  Former Streetwise workshop leaders Simon Davies-Fidler (who is also the Director of Music at J’s & B’s) and Liz Milner wanted to create a new place for the Streetwise performers to continue the good work of Streetwise Opera, and so Newcastle Phoenix Choir was born!

Whilst Streetwise Opera’s mission is to engage with people who have experienced homelessness, Newcastle Phoenix Choir’s scope is wider: we welcome singers from all backgrounds, especially people who haven’t yet found a choir that suits their needs.  Our simple mission is to give our members an uplifting experience through singing and socialising.  Our team of professional musicians, support workers and volunteers will be there every Friday at 1pm-4pm to sing songs, drink tea and eat cake!

The Members of the Phoenix Choir joining with Tyne Valley Voices in March 2024Newcastle Phoenix Choir’s repertoire isn’t limited to a particular style.  We’ll explore songs from many cultures and genres; if it’s enjoyable to sing, we’ll sing it! The Choir will perform whenever opportunities come up and we’ll always make sure that everyone is able to get to where they need to be, if we’re performing away from the church.

If you are interested in joining the choir, or if you would like make a donation to keep the choir going, please email Simon at npc@jamesbasilfenham.org.uk
